She is married to Dennis and has four dogs; two pugs Lavern and Pudding, Ivan a golden retriever mix, Wyatt, a cattle dog who holds championships in obedience and rally, and their cat Pettie. You can find Bonnie most days taking care of the kittens in the nursery and working with the dogs. With her knowledge of training, she helps work with the shelter dogs to teach them basic obedience.

Kathy Elzey

Kathy started as a volunteer in 2007, then became a part time employee. She recently started full time after retiring from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She cares for the new arrivals and dogs and is also our “weekend warrior” coming in when the shelter is closed to make sure everyone gets the attention they need. Kathy shares her home with four dogs, five rabbits, one cat, one guinea pig and a flock of beautiful birds.

Luna Bella

Luna Bella is a very special little dog. She was born in the directors living room on June 21st, 2017 after her mother was surrendered pregnant. Luna has a sister and four brothers. She was born with a birth defect known as a Cleft Lip which extends into her hard palate. Because of the birth defect, Luna was not able to nurse from her mother nor could she use a bottle because she would inhale the milk. Luna had to be tube fed around the clock in order to survive as a baby. Now that she is older she can eat and drink just like any other dog. Luna was featured on Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl in February of 2018. She is our little mascot and loves to meet her fans either at the shelter or events!
